It was named one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll and was ranked number 352 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

My Sharona Single: The Knack Album: Get the Knack B-side: Let Me Out Released: June 1979 Recorded: April 1979 Songwriters: Doug Fieger, Berton Averre In 2008, "My Sharona" ranked number 75 on the Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Songs .  In 2011, Rolling Stone's readers voted "My Sharona" by The Knack number six of the  Top 10 One-Hit Wonders  of All Time.  In the US, this was the best-selling single of 1979.

After its release, the song peaked at number five on the UK Singles Chart and number 64 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Critically acclaimed for its central guitar riff, several publications consider it one of Bowie's greatest songs.  After he died in 2016, Rolling Stone listed "Rebel Rebel" as one of Bowie's  30 essential songs . Spencer Kaufman of Ultimate Classic Rock ranked the song at number seven on his list of Top 10 Bowie Songs . In 2018, the writers of NME numbered "Rebel Rebel" as Bowie's  fifth greatest song . Jon Savage of The Guardian included Rebel, Rebel when he named the 20 best glam-rock songs of all time.

It was his last Top 10 hit in the American Hot 100 or pop charts. Most of the successful songs Linde wrote were for Country stars:  Roger Miller  (" Tom Green County Fair " - 1970),  Garth Brooks  (" Callin' Baton Rouge " - 1993), and  The Dixie Chicks  (" Goodbye Earl " - 1999.)   In Britain, Welsh Rock and Roll revivalist  Shakin' Stevens  recorded a number 10 hit of Linde's " A Letter to You " in 1984.
