One Hit Wonder: Taco (1982)

Puttin' On the Ritz Single: Taco Album: After Eight B-side: Livin' in My Dream World Released: 1982 Genre: Synth-pop Songwriters: Irving Berlin The singer known as Taco released a synth-pop cover version of "Puttin' On the Ritz" from his 1982 album After Eight . It reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making the then 95-year-old  Irving Berlin  the oldest living songwriter with a hit in the top ten. Taco's only hit in the United States ranks  52 in VH1's 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders of the 80s. It's number 79 on their 100 All-Time Greatest One-Hit Wonders list.

It was the band's first hit. The album contains two versions of the song; one with Super Cat and one without .  It was number one four consecutive weeks on the Hot 100 Airplay and spent eight weeks at number one on the Hot 100 Modern Rock Tracks charts. It's listed at number 52 of VH1's countdown of the " 100 Greatest Songs of the '90s. "

Cool Water Written: 1936  Recorded by: The Sons of the Pioneers Recording date: March 27, 1941 Genre: Western standard Songwriter: Bob Nolan "Cool Water" is a gospel-folk song about a man, his mule, and a mirage in the desert. Written and recorded by Bob Nolan and  The Sons of the Pioneers , it won a Grammy Award in 1941. In 1979, the Smithsonian's Division of Performing Arts designated the Sons of the Pioneers a " National Treasure ." In 1986, the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences of Los Angeles chose the Pioneers' "Cool Water" recording for their Grammy Hall of Fame . Western Writers of America Inc. (WWA) was founded in 1953 to promote the literature of the American West. In 2010, WWA surveyed its membership to choose the Top 100 Western Songs of all Time. "Cool Water" was voted number 3.

The song became the first track on David Bowie 's self-titled album , released in November. It's one of three of his songs in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.

Take On Me Single by: A-ha From the album: Hunting High and Low First release: October 19, 1984 Genre: Synth-pop, new wave Songwriters: Magne Furuholmen, Morten Harket, Pål Waaktaar Rolling Stone magazine published the results of their reader's poll for the Top 10 One-Hit Wonders of All Time in May 2011. " Take On Me " by a-ha took the top spot. It ranks 8 on VH1's list of  100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders.
